PREFABRICATED CAFE AND KITCHEN

South San Francisco, 11/2018

Architect of Record: Perkins and Will

Role: Project Architect, Schematic Design to Permit submittal

This ground up cafeteria and kitchen design serves a corporate campus in the peninsula. Our design provided indoor/outdoor dining space as well as a kitchen capable of serving 500-600 meals per day.

We created an outdoor play zone for employees equipped with mini-golf, basketball, bocce ball and shuffleboard making the cafeteria a destination point for the campus.

Being built on an existing parking lot in the jurisdiction of the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC) meant that the project faced many challenges. These challenges included anticipating sea level rise, being constructed within the existing flood plain and coordinating with multiple jurisdictions during the design phase.  The team resolved these constraints by raising the floor height out of the flood plain and by providing landscaped bioswales to treat storm-water runoff from the site.
